The Golden Age Home
The Golden Age Home is a community in Kingston Jamaica that offers assistance to those people in dire need. Quite often, these people are found discarded by their family into the streets or they have simply outlived their other family members.
Families are forced into making choices when food and money are too scarce to take care of everyone in the family. Food for the Poor will bring these people to one of their sites and provide food, medicine and shelter for them. They have a staff that attends to their needs 24/7. Currently there are over 360 people cared for at this site.
I particularly became close to a young man named Johnny who tried to stay with me by crawling on the floor. He has an incredible smile. Due to malnutrition, he will never walk again as his legs are to weak. He loves people and the staff had to tie a bed sheet to his leg to keep him from crawling off because he was so desperate for attention. He is the one I am on the floor with.
